My Review of the CD
The long awaited, and some what controversial album
Feedback File is finally out! This album presents the best b-side tracks of previously released singles, along with some live recordings, and two new songs. Some fans have been unsure of the purpose of the album, but after listening to it, it became quite clear. 2006 marked AKGs tenth anniversary and this album celebrates good songs that have not yet recieved the audience they deserved. The tracks on this album range from AKGs indies days to their debut to their most recent works.
Feedback File first starts off great with the rock song "Entrance". The album maintains a great energy all the way through and also brings back some great memories (ie. of Kitas first song). "Kaiga Kyoushitsu", "Entrance", "Yuugure no Aka", "Hold Me Tight", and "Uso to Wonderland" also really shine on this album.
The icing on this album though are the last five tracks. These five tracks are live recordings from 2004, 2005, and 2006. Each one of these songs is exhilerating to listen to. Some have special instrumental openings and Gotohs vocals are much more powerful. Another great thing about these tracks is listening to the audience in the background rock along with the songs.
The bonus DVD is extremely well done as well! The video and sound quality is amazing. It is also cool to see how AKG has evolved over the years.
Overall, I was incredibly impressed with this album. It was much better than I had expected and also very exciting to listen to. I would even rank it above Sol-Fa or Fanclub! If you havent ordered this album yet, you must :D
Album Track Listing
1. Entrance - 9/10
Entrance has always been a favorite of mine. It has a great upbeat melody and very catchy chorus. This was definitely the right song to start this album off!
2. Rocket No. 4 - 8/10
A good song and also a very old one by AKG. It carries over the energy nicely from Entrance.
3. Kaiga Kyoushitsu - 10/10
Wow! The more I hear this song, the more I like it. It is very reminescent of AKGs older songs and has a great driving beat. Gotohs vocals are incredible in this song too :D
4. Siren #2 - 8/10
This song slows down the pace of the album a bit. It is a different version of the original Siren, and I actually prefer this composition over the original.
5. Yuugure no Aka - 8/10
This song brings a nice change to the album. It has a bit of a reggae feel to it, which is very different for AKG. Its their only song like this, and I wouldnt mind if they made some more like this :)
6. Hold Me Tight - 7/10
A fun song to sing to in English. It is the rerecorded version, so Gotohs pronunciation is much better and there are some compositional changes.
7. Road Movie - 7/10
If you listen very carefully around 3:15 minutes, youll notice a small compositional change to this song during the instrumental chorus :)
8. Tobenai Sakana - 8/10
Nice song.
9. Doudoumeguri Yoru - 9/10
A new song by AKG. Its actually pretty short...like 2:30 minutes, but has a very catchy beat. Kiyoshi does some very clever things on the drums in this song too.
10. Uso to Wonderland - 10/10
I love this song :D It has a very fun, catchy beat. Its a little strange to hear Kita sing, but it is also refreshing at the same time.
11. Eien Ni - 9/10
This is the last studio recorded song. It has a nice, soothing melody that brings the first part of the album to a close.
12. Jihei Tansaku (2004 @ Shibuya-AX) - 8/10
Heres the first live track! Gotohs vocals are very good. I love his closing at the end :D
13. Flash Back (2004 @ Government Managed Seaside Park) - 10/10
This song is amazing! The crowd goes completely crazy during this song and who can blame them? One of AKGs best short songs and its even better when performed live :D (Of course Im biased since I named the site after this song haha)
14. Understand (2004 @ Government Managed Seaside Park) - 10/10
Okay, this has to be the same audience from the previous song (you guys rock!) cause they are going crazy again, and singing along with Gotoh. Major props need to go to Gotoh too! His falsettos during the chorus are amazing and he puts a lot of emotion into the song.
15. N.G.S. (2005 @ Shibuya-AX) - 9/10
AKG starts out with a nice intro that transitions into the song. Kitas guitar really stands out as he plays a unique melody inbetween choruses. I also like how Gotoh does some improvisation to bring the audience in during the instrumental chorus.
16. Re:Re: (2006 @ Yokohama Arena) - 9/10
AKG starts out with a really neat intro for this song. Overall, a very good performance.
Bonus DVD Track Listing
1. Haruka Kanata (2004 @ Shibuya-AX) - 9/10
What a classic song for AKG! This was taped in 2003, so Gotohs vocals still sound a little inexperienced. All of the members really put a lot of effort into this song. Very nice performance.
2. Mirai no Kakera (2004 @ Hitachi Seaside Park) - 9/10
This is another great performance! The video footage transitions excellently and they also use special effects to make the picture shake a little at key points in the song.
3. Kimi to iu Hana (2004 @ Hitachi Seaside Park) - 10/10
This live was at the 2004 Rock in Japan Festival and the crowd was huge! What makes this video even better is hearing the entire crowd sing along! You can also tell that AKG has improved dramatically because they are shining with confidence!
4. Rewrite (2005 @ Shibuya-AX) - 10/10
The lighting and video effects in this clip are awesome! Its really fun to see the crowd go wild too :D
5. Loop and Loop (2005 @ Yokohama Arena) - 10/10
Wow! The entire layout of the stage and lights is absolutely spectacular. At the middle of the song, Gotoh also lets the audience finish part of the chorus.
