My Review of the CD

This is the second album that Asian Kung-Fu Generation has released in conjunction with their Nano-Mugen Festival. Unlike last year’s album, this tracklist is much larger and features 12 bands. Each of these bands will be playing at the 2006 Nano-Mugen Festival.

As I began to listen to the album, I noticed that it featured a lot more genres than the previous one had. On this album you’ll find rock, pop, and ska-like songs. There are also quite a few songs sung in English. Overall, its a great combination of Asian and Western bands at their best :) Below you’ll find a review of each song.

Track Listing

1. This song is very similar to other songs like "Blackout" and "Siren". It has a nice ballad feel until it reaches the core of the song where it picks up. A nice song, but not very catchy.
Rating: 8/10

2. Beat Crusaders - Another Time/Another Story
Starts out great with some distorted vocals. Overall, a good rock song with a funky beat.
Rating: 9/10

3. Chatmonchy - Renai Spirits
Good song by Chatmonchy with a lot of angst. For some reason though, it really doesn’t seem to go with the rest of the album. Its fairly repetitive too.
Rating: 7/10

4. Dream State - Change
Wow! This song has an awesome melody. The vocals are also quite smooth and dreamy :)
Rating: 10/10

5. Ellegarden - Stereoman
Another awesome song! The guitars and drums definitely rock this song out.
Rating: 10/10

6. HiGE - Dirty Na Sekai (Put Your Head)
This song definitely changes the pace of the album with its hard rock melody. The vocals are pretty harsh so it may take a while to get used to if you like light, classic rock songs.
Rating: 9/10

7. Mo’some Tonebender - Have you ever seen the stars? (Shooting Star Version)
A nice headbanger song. The drums and bass have an incredible command in the song. It really sounds nice. The chorus gets drown out a bit in parts though.
Rating: 8/10

8. The Rentals - Getting By
This song lightens the tone of the album a bit. It has a fun, catchy melody that makes you want to dance along. The lyrics are great too!
Rating: 9/10

9. Silver Sun - Bubblegum
Bubblegum is a great classic rock song. I love the chorus and the plays on the word "bubblegum". Very clever :)
Rating: 9/10

10. Straightener - The Nowarist
Nice song and lyrics. Too bad the song is only about 2 minutes long.
Rating: 8/10

11. Waking Ashland - I Am For You
Beautiful ballad! The vocals show a lot of emotion in this song, and the falsetto’s are spectacular.
Rating: 10/10

12. The Young Punx! - Wake Up, Make Up, Bring it Up, Shake Up
Haha, this song is hilarious. The only lyrics to it are "Wake up, make up, bring it up, shake up" and it has some great hip-hop beats. Beware though, you’ll definitely get this song stuck in your head!
Rating: 9/10
