My Review of the CD
"World Apart" is finally out and what a historic single it is! 2006 marks the bands tenth anniversary. It is suiting then that "World Apart" represents the first single to be released this year! "World Apart" uses a lot of the styles AKG first played when they had just formed. It is also very experimental because Kita Kensuke helped compose and sings to one of the songs!
The single first begins with track 1, "World Apart". Old AKG fans will love this track because it has a punk rock melody that is very reminescent of older songs like "Mirai no Kakera" and "Entrance". Gotoh sounds quite spectacular in this song! Following track one is the song "Eien ni". This song is a bit slower and more laid back, but full of emotion! This song also has some playful melodies after the chorus.
To conclude the single is "Uso to Wonderland". This song is quite unique! Kita composed the music for the song and sings it by himself. It is very weird to listen to someone else from the band sing when you are used to listening to Gotoh. I must admit though that this was a great debut for Kita. Kita tends to stick to the upper ranges, which is good and bad. The wonderful thing about his voice is that it blends in beautifully with the guitars. The bad thing though is that without much of a lower range, he may have a harder time portraying the lyrics and emotions in songs. If he could work on the lower tones and get those down, then hed be a hit. It is very interesting to follow Kitas increasing involvement in the band and I think hell be composing and singing more songs in the future.
Track Listing
1. World Apart - 10/10
I love this song! It is very reminiscent of several songs from their "Kimitsunagi Five M" album and Gotoh sounds amazing! He really goes all out in the chorus of this song!
Eien ni - 8/10
Another good song! Its a bit slower, but full of angst and emotion :D
Uso to Wonderland - 9/10
Go Kita! For his first official release, this song is not bad. Its very upbeat and a bit poppish, but it definitely fits his voice. I also love the sound of his voice when he sings in the higher tones. It sounds great with the guitars!
